Camellia oil is also known as tea seed oil or tea oil. It is extracted from the seeds of Camellia oleifera, Camellia sinensis or Camellia japonica. Georg Joseph Kamel is a Bohemian and a missionary responsible for introducing many Eastern Asian plants into Philippines. The name “Camellia” is given to honor him by Carl Linnaeus, a Swedish Botanist. Camellia oil should not be confused with tea tree oil, which is native to Australia.
Camellia oleifera is present extensively throughout China and is widely cultivated there at altitudes of between 500 and 1300 meters above sea level. Camellia oil is used as cooking oil in the southern provinces of China.
It has a very high smoking point and is suitable for frying and stir frying. It is also used for salad dressing, marinating, dipping and deep frying.
The composition of Camellia oil closely resembles that of olive oil. It has about 85% or mono unsaturated oleic acid.
It also contains omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, polyphenols and vitamin E. Although Camellia species contain caffeine, since it is a water soluble component, it is not found in Camellia oil.

Camellia oil’s components closely resemble that of sebum, the natural oil produced from our sebaceous glands present in the skin. Sebum serves as a natural skin moisturizer and use of Camellia oil serves the same purpose. In fact, Camellia oil is very useful for dry, scaly, itchy, icthyotic skin. It is also useful for reducing the wrinkles related to ageing. Since it has rich anti oxidants’ content, it can be applied as an after shave to reduce skin inflammation, soothing agent and as an antiseptic. The lion’s share of oleic acid present in Camilla oil is well known to penetrate the skin layers, boosting the action of collagen and elastin which are the basic and most abundant supporting framework of our body. Camellia oil application makes the skin smooth, shiny, radiant and helps to protect it from the elements of nature. It helps wound healing and minimizes scar tissue formation. It also acts against eczema and psoriasis.

Not even celebrities are able to resist the temptation of using Camellia oil on their skin, knowing its potential benefits. One significant use is prevention or reduction of pregnancy stretch marks when applied over their abdomen throughout their pregnancy. In her program, Kate Winslett told CBS that she had used camellia oil during her pregnancy to escape, with success, from ugly stretch marks. Similarly, in her book “That Extra Half Inch”, Victoria Beckham has revealed her trust in Camellia oil.

Camelia Oil - Your Beauty Ally!

Camellia oil is an excellent scalp rejuvenator. It nourishes, moisturizes and tones the scalp skin. It also strengthens the hair roots, making the hair smooth, shiny, unbreakable and long. As it is an excellent moisturizer capable of fighting and reversing scalp dryness, regular application can get rid of dandruff, which mainly thrives on scalp dryness. In fact, these properties of camellia oil are well recognized in Japan, where women use it on their scalp and hair on a day to day basis. It is also used to set the hair of Sumo wrestlers prior to a bout.

Camellia oil is also very apt for protecting the skin from harmful UV rays. There are two types of UV rays, named UV-A and UV-B. Among these, UV-B is the one responsible for sun burns. Camellia oil is a very useful natural sunscreen and is extensively used by the Japanese during bathing in the sea. For people who develop allergy to synthetic sunscreens, Camellia oil can be a useful alternative. But Camellia oil is not useful against UV-A.

Camellia oil is conclusively proven to reduce and prevent the spread of Melanoma in to the lungs. Incidentally, melanoma is an aggressive skin cancer with high mortality and morbidity. The beneficial effect observed with Camellia oil is attributed to its high oleic acid content. Using Camellia oil as cooking oil for melanoma patients is suggested to escape from the disease spreading to the lungs.
Experiment with green tea seed oil, a specific type of Camellia oil, is proven to prevent weight gain and obesity in mice by acting on the fat cells favorably. Such a beneficial effect is predicted for humans also.

Finally, camellia oil is used as a lubricant for hand tools and is also regularly applied on them to prevent corrosion. Even in ancient times, Samurai warriors used to apply this oil on their swords and other weapons to protect them from rusting and to keep them shiny and new.
Surely, you’ll have no problems to find a use of this gift of nature for your body’s benefit!

Krill oil is extracted from krill. Krill are tiny bioluminescent (light emitting, like a fire fly) crustacean organisms resembling a small lobster. They are about 9 to 70 mm long and living in the oceans of Antarctica and North Pacific. There are more than 85 species of krill worldwide; the abundant ones are the Antarctic krill known as Euphausia superba and North Pacific krill called Euphausia pacifica.

Don’t be deceived by their size, for krill form the largest animal biomass of our planet, about 500 million tons of them are roaming the North Pacific alone at any given time and about 110,000 tons of them are caught for consumption annually.
As krill form a critical element of marine food chain between planktons and higher fish forms, the “Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources” diligently controls krill fishing to prevent its extinction.
The krill oil patent is held by a Canadian Company called Neptune Technologies, an advantage in that almost all of the world’s krill oil is produced by it and distributed to the supplement companies for sale. So wherever we get it from, the quality is bound to be comparable.

Krill oil is usually extracted by cooking the raw material and then pressing to separate the oil from the other tissues. Subsequently the oil is refined by using centrifuges and polishers. This is sometimes done onboard the fishing vessel itself. Sometimes, the krill catch is frozen, transported to the onshore krill oil extraction facility. There using the pressing method or solvent extraction, krill oil is obtained. Recently, Tharos Limited, a Chilean company based in Santiago, has come out with a novel solvent free extraction method which leaves no residue in the final product with better yield and quality for which an international patent has been filed.

The main components of krill oil are:

Omega 3 fatty acids conjugated with phospholipids

Astaxanthin, a potent anti oxidant

Canthaxanthin, another potent anti oxidant

Phosphatidylcholine, a stress buster and natural emulsifier

Vitamins A,D and E

Powerful Health Benefits of Krill Oil Hidden In a Small Capsule...

The advantage of krill oil is that the omega 3 fatty acids in it are conjugated with phospholipids, which are a natural component of our cell membranes, allowing easy entry of krill oil into our cells to exert their beneficial effects.
The krill oil healthy chemical cocktail:

Encourages normal nervous system functioning

Improves memory, mental concentration and learning capabilities

Aids in having a healthy mood

Keeps skin healthy and glowing

Maintains the heart and blood vessels healthy by delaying/reversing cholesterol deposits inside them

Strengthens the joint and lubricates the joint cartilage, keeping joints healthy and comfortable

Optimizes liver function

Fights ageing
Rejuvenates the immune system

Protects and aids in repairing all cell membranes

Makes cholesterol profiles healthy by reducing the harmful LDL cholesterol and increasing the healthy HDL cholesterol levels

Decreases the blood sugar levels

Reduces the abnormal clotting of blood which is responsible for heart attacks, strokes and peripheral arterial diseases

Are effective in relieving the lower abdominal pain, back pain and vomiting sensation associated with dysmenorrhea, a menstrual abnormality in women.

Are good in controlling pre menstrual syndrome

Treat adult ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

The astaxanthine present in krill oil can pass through our blood brain barrier and can reach the brain nerve cells unlike many other anti oxidants which cannot pass through the blood brain barrier. So consuming krill oil is bound to protect the brain and eyes from free radical oxidative damage.
Because krill oil is very rich in anti oxidants, its shelf life is very long. It stays without decaying for up to 4 years in refrigeration and 2 years without it. And as it contains omega 3 fatty acids conjugated with phospholipids, absorption occurs very easily without any digestive disturbances or fishy burping.

Krill oil is better avoided in persons with sea food allergy. Intake of krill oil decreases the capacity of the blood to clot. So it is better to avoid krill oil at least two weeks before any scheduled surgery.
Similarly, krill oil should ideally be taken under medical supervision in persons already consuming blood thinning medicines like Aspirin, Clopidogrel and Heparin and NSAIDS (Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs; e.g. Ibuprofen, Diclofenac sodium). As always, consult your preferred medical professional.

Tea tree oil is an essential oil obtained from Melaleuca tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) and it is also known as melaleuca oil. It is pale yellow to clear in color with camphor like smell. Native to New South Wales, Australia, tea tree oil is different from tea oil, which is extracted from green tea plant. This remarkable essential oil has over 98 components, among which terpinen-4-ol is responsible for its anti microbial properties. It is characterized by anti bacterial, anti viral, anti fungal, anti septic, anti inflammatory and cosmetic properties. proven to fight many common diseases when nothing else works, it has proven its worth in traditional medicine, for centuries. It is also an immunomodulant.
Tea tree oil is not supposed to be taken orally and is purely reserved for external application after suitable dilution.

Tea tree oil is effective against fungal nail infection (onychomycosis). It is also lethal for scabies, head lice and body lice, being more active than allopathic medicine Permethrin in these conditions. It is regarded as very useful for preventing diaper rash in babies. For this purpose, tea tree oil is added in small quantities to the water used for rinsing used diapers before drying and storing. It can also be added to the regular diaper rash preventive cream to get added benefit.
Mixing equal quantities of tea tree oil and lavender oil and applying over acne before sleeping cures acne when used regularly.

Tea Tree Oil Come from Melaleuca Tree

This essential oil is effective against a wide range of bacteria including various species of staphylococcus (chiefly responsible for skin infections and life threatening hospital-acquired infections, including the ones caused by infected indwelling catheters), streptococcus (skin and throat, chest infections), Corynebacterium acnes (responsible for acne), Pseudomonas (a deadly bacterium responsible for most of the hospital acquired infections), Escherichia coli (causing urinary tract infections), Klebsiella species (respiratory and urinary tract infections) and various other less significant bacteria. Combining silver ions with tea tree oil gives even better benefits against the above bacteria, especially pseudomonas and staphylococci.
In fact, towel bathing or regular bathing patients with 5% solution of tea tree oil in water prevents skin colonization with MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staph. Aureus – a resistant bacteria present in most ICUs, causing resistant skin and systemic infection in severely ill patients).

The efficacy of tea tree oil against seborrheic dermatitis, causing dandruff is proven by modern clinical trials. When tested against a placebo, a 5% shampoo of this essential oil gave 41% improvement in symptoms as against only 11% with placebo. It is effective against the yeast Candida species that are resistant to the antifungal drug Fluconazole, scoring one over conventional medicine.
When 5% solution of tea tree oil was compared against 5% benzoyl peroxide (usual acne treating cream) for mild to moderate acne, the side effect profile was much less with tea tree oil (44% versus 79%) while providing similar clinical improvement outcomes.
Eumycetoma foot is a particularly disabling infection of the foot caused by the fungus Madurella mycetomatis which has to be treated by early surgery followed by high doses of antifungal agents ketoconazole or itraconazole. Both have significant liver toxicity and patients have been lost due to this. Tea tree oil is shown to inhibit Madurella myetomatis, presenting an interesting alternative treatment option for this condition.

Human Papilloma Virus causes warts, commonly on fingers and palms. Treatment option is limited in modern medicine. Application of tea tree oil once daily for two weeks leads to complete clearance and re-epithelialization of the involved areas. It also fights viral herpes skin conditions like shingles and chickenpox.
Demodecosis of the eyes is a disease caused by the microscopic insect Demodex folliculorum. It causes eyelid itching, irritation and scaling leading to eyelid thickening, loss of eyelashes, eye inflammation and decreased vision. Application of tea tree oil extract as a scrub over the affected eyelids cures the condition. Diluted preparations are used to treat bacterial and fungal infections in aquarium fish. What a vast spectrum of health and beauty benefits!

Often called liquid gold because of its unrefined consistency, Jojoba Oil is truly that. Its precious ability to restore balance to the skin, treat medical conditions, and work as a fungicide, allows this oil to stand apart from other oils and makes it essential for any home medicine cabinet.

Understanding Jojoba Oil
The wonder of jojoba oil is not unique to health, medicine and beauty care. The first mention of this precious oil, in the early 1800s, described Americans native to the Sonora Desert using the plant based extract in their cooking, hair care, and various medical treatments. As the demand for this oil increased, individuals explored myriad other uses and benefits for the ‘golden oil’, eventually enabling it to be one of the first oil-producing cash crops in North America.

While it is regarded as one of essential oils, the unique element of Jojoba oil is that it actually consists of a wax ester produced from the seeds of the jojoba plant. This shrub is native to Southern California, southern Arizona, and northwestern Mexico.
The wax produced from the seeds, which turns into oil at room temperature, has a golden consistency until it is refined when it then becomes colorless and odorless.

Benefits of Jojoba Oil
At its basic level, jojoba oil is beneficial simply because of its numerous uses. Most importantly though is the fact that this oil most closely matches the oil found on human skin. This quality is what allows jojoba oil to work so beautifully as a health and beauty treatment. Additionally, jojoba oil does not break down over time, which promotes absorption into skin.

Negatives of Jojoba Oil
When using the oil straight, any more than ten drops is too much for skin or hair and will definitely leave a shine. Another drawback to jojoba oil is the cost; it is one of the most expensive oils to use, so it should be used sparingly or mixed with something else (a lotion for example).

Jojoba Plant - the Source of Jojoba Oil

Practical Uses for Jojoba Oil
As mentioned several times above, jojoba oil has many practical uses. Among them are:

Moisturizer: Add several drops of jojoba oil to your favorite body lotion for an instant moisturizer that will soak into your skin and last. Or use just a few drops and rub them directly onto your skin. It is safe for the face as well, and will look fantastic under makeup.

Lip Balm: Use one drop of jojoba oil daily on lips to remove any dead skin and keep it moist and refreshed. For an added zing, mix in your favorite extract from the baking aisle at the local grocery store.

Makeup Remover: Mix equal parts water and jojoba oil in a small bottle and shake. Use a cotton ball to apply the mixture to remove makeup and moisturize at the same time.

Hair Treatment: Use several drops in your hands to work as a conditioner for your hair and to treat split ends. Rubbing one small drop into your hands and then brushing through your hair can help tame frizz and flyaway hairs.

Pre-swimming hair treatment: To protect your hair from chlorine, rub three to four drops of jojoba oil through your hair, paying close attention to the roots.

Shaving care: Use one or two drops over hair before shaving to moisturize and protect the area being shaved.

Nail Treatment: Rub one drop of jojoba oil over your hands, making sure to rub the oil into the cuticles and around the nails.

Antibacterial Treatment: Most forms of Staphylococcus aureus and the fungus Candida albicans cannot grow in the presence of Jojoba oil, which makes it a great antibacterial covering for hands. Additionally, it can be used to coat powdery mildew for easy removal of the fungus.

Fish oil is extracted from the tissues of predatory fatty fish at the top of the food chain like shark, salmon, tile fish, king mackerel, albacore tuna and sword fish. Fish oil is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids namely Eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexanoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA are the precursor molecules for our body’s Eicosanoids, which play a major role against inflammation and stress in our daily life.
Interestingly, the EPA and DHA are not produced by the fish themselves. Rather, these two molecules get accumulated inside these fish throughout their life as they ingest microalgae and other fish that have consumed these microalgae as their food.

Fish oil is highly recommended by the National Institute of Health of US for the following three conditions:
1. High triglyceride levels (Hypertriglyceridemia)
2. Secondary cardiovascular disease prevention
3. Hypertension
Triglycerides are harmful cholesterols implicated in the development of stroke, heart attacks and peripheral arterial diseases. The recommended level of triglycerides in blood is less than 150mg/dl. Regular intake of fish oil decreases blood triglyceride levels, protecting individuals from the lethal complications arising out of triglyceride excess.

Make Fish Oil Your Font of Health!

Fish oil decreases the deposition of cholesterol inside the walls of the blood vessels of the heart and body (atherosclerosis).
In addition, it stabilizes the already formed atherosclerotic plague from totally occluding the blood vessel or predisposing to abnormal blood clotting in the area involved (thrombosis). Thus, it maintains the patency and caliber of the blood vessels, augmenting blood flow and decreasing target tissue starvation (ischemia).
Fish oil also lessens the likelihood of the heart to beat irregularly like in atrial or ventricular fibrillation. It also improves the compliance of the large blood vessels of our body, making them expand and shrink more effectively according to demand, without getting injured in the process. These are the mechanisms by which fish oil plays a vital role in secondary cardiovascular disease prevention and blood pressure reduction.

Fish oil supplementation to pregnant women has been conclusively proven to reduce the incidence of food allergies, atopic dermatitis, asthma, hay fever and eczema in their children.
This is a vital benefit, for some aspects of this protection persists till these children become adolescents! Children suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) experience better improvement with fish oil intake without side effects, than when using conventional medicines.

Infants and children suffering from intestinal failure are given total parenteral nutrition, in which all the three major components of food (proteins, carbohydrates and fats) are given intravenously. One of the serious complications of intravenous lipid (fat) emulsion is life threatening cholestatis, where bile flow is sluggish leading to jaundice and liver failure. Addition of fish oil to intravenous lipid emulsions is observed to reduce the incidence of this complication. Similarly, adding fish oil to total parenteral nutrition in sick and septic ICU adult patients and in patients who had undergone elective major surgical procedures led to improved outcomes with shortened hospital stay and less susceptibility to infections.

Fish oil has shown successfully protecting individuals from breast, large bowel and prostate cancers.
It has been found to elevate the mood in depressive patients and decreases their suicidal tendency. It also benefits patients with schizophrenia. Similarly, elderly patients with Alzheimer’s disease, leading to memory loss and loss of higher mental faculties benefit from regular intake of fish oil. Patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease also experience improvement with fish oil supplementation. The usual recommended oral intake of fish oil is about 1gram/day.

Black seed oil is known to mankind since ancient times. The Egyptians called it a “panacea” and even placed a bottle of black seed oil in Tutankhamen’s tomb to take care of his ailments in his afterlife! Even today, the best quality black seeds come from Egypt, where the growing conditions are perfect.

The Greeks were not far behind to utilize its good qualities. In fact it was called “Greek Coriander” and was used to treat nasal congestion, headache, and worm infestation of the gut and tooth pain as recorded by Dioscoredes, a Greek physician. It was also used as a dietary supplement by Romans. Avicenna, who was the author of the medical treatise “The Canon of Medicine” mentions black seed as the one that “stimulates the body’s energy and helps recovering from fatigue”.
To top it all, it also finds a deserving place in the greatest bestselling book of our modern times, “The Bible” where it is referred to as “fitches” in Isaiah 28:25-27. No wonder that is commonly known as “Love in the Mist” in English and as “blessed seed” in Arabic (Habbat-ul-Baraka)!

Peppermint oil is extracted from peppermint plant (Mentha x piperita). Peppermint plant is a hybrid plant, resulting from the crossing of spearmint (Mentha spicata) plant with watermint plant (Mentha aquatica). It is indigenous to Europe, but is widely cultivated throughout the world now. The medicinal qualities of peppermint were known to man as far back as 10,000 years, making it the world’s oldest medicine.

Peppermint oil has menthone, menthol and menthyl esters in high concentrations. It also has appreciable levels of potassium, copper, calcium, folate, iron, magnesium and manganese besides Vitamin C, Vitamin A and omega 3 fatty acids. Peppermint oil is used in the manufacture of soaps, shampoos, shaving creams and lotions, toothpastes and cigarettes. It is also used to flavor tea, ice creams and chewing gums.

Peppermint oil has several beneficial effects on our gastro intestinal system. It is a carminative (digestion improver) and improves appetite. Studies conducted in Italy (2007) and Iran (2010) report that peppermint oil improves the symptoms of Irritable bowel syndrome. Peppermint oil acted through the pain channel TRPM8 to produce relief in these patients. Peppermint oil relaxes the gastro esophageal sphincter, promoting belching and preventing gas accumulation in the stomach. It is also used to alleviate nausea (vomiting sensation) and indigestion symptoms. Because of its antispasmodic nature, it is used intraluminally during endoscopy procedures and double contrast barium enema studies. Peppermint oil is also effective in dissolving small gallstones with minimal symptoms but needs to be given for long duration.

Peppermint oil fights bad breath and also relieves tooth ache. These qualities coupled with its aroma are what make it an ideal toothpaste flavoring agent. Peppermint oil is a good expectorant. It produces a cooling sensation in the respiratory tree upon inhaling. It relieves the congestion and facilitates easy cough in flu, sinus infection, bronchial asthma and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Anti cold rubs, balms and inhalers invariably have menthol in them.
Topical application of peppermint oil is effective in reducing headache, neuralgia (nerve pain), myalgia (muscle pain) and arthralgia (joint pain). In fact it is one of the essential ingredients in the majority of pain relieving gels and creams.

Peppermint Oil Deserves its Centuries Old Reputation As a Potent Healer!

Peppermint oil also gives relief from stress, exhaustion, anxiety, depression and restlessness. It also improves immunity and blood circulation. It also gives relief from menstrual cramps and possess anti viral, anti bacterial and anti fungal properties.
People who have undergone solid organ transplantations (liver, kidney, heart) are started on various immunosuppressive medications to prevent their body rejecting the transplanted organ. Cyclosporine is one of them. However, long term cyclosporine use has its own side effects like excessive hair growth and frequent life threatening infections resulting from lack of immunity. Use of peppermint oil increase the blood levels of cyclosporine whereby the patient can be on less than normal doses of the medicine to achieve the desired immunosuppression without unduly suffering from its adverse effects.

Peppermint oil is usually given as enteric coated pills to safely pass the stomach and be released in the small bowel. However, care should be taken in giving these pills to persons taking antacids. In such people, the pills break down in the stomach itself. Since peppermint oil increases the reflux symptoms in persons with Gastro esophageal reflux disease and hiatus hernia, such a scenario is better avoided in these individuals.

Coconut oil is extracted from the dried kernel of a ripe coconut. Coconut trees (Cocos nucifera) grow easily in tropical climate with moderate water requirements and produces coconuts throughout the year.
Coconut oil contains saturated fatty acids as its main component. In fact, almost to above 90%. The chief saturated acid is Lauric acid. Others are Myristic acid, Palmitic acid, Capric acid and Caprylic acid. It also has some mono unsaturated fatty acid in the form of Oleic acid and Poly unsaturated fatty acid in Linoleic acid. Derivatives of fatty acids and fatty alcohols are also present besides some amount of Vitamin K, Vitamin E and iron. Gallic acid, a polyphenol is the component responsible for the taste and smell of coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil is especially rich in polyphenols.

In our body Monolaurin is derived from Lauric acid. Monolaurin is found in human breast milk and coconut oil only. It has been shown to dissolve the cell wall of fatty cell coated viruses, preventing them from adhering to the human cell and entering it. Consequently it becomes an easy target for our immune system to attack and destroy it. It is one mechanism by which breast feeding babies escape from many virus infections including HIV. Monolaurin is presently being studied for its efficacy in treating HIV infection in humans.
In addition, the coconut oil’s Monolaurin is proven to have anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti protozoal properties. It has been successfully shown to act against the deadly bacteria Staphylococcus aureus from infecting the dry, flaking skin of atopic dermatitis (an allergic skin condition).

Another advantage of the saturated fatty acids in coconut oil is that they are medium chain triglycerides.
They are cleared faster from the blood, can be easily burnt for energy production by the body; do not accumulate in liver or fat cells. So long term adverse health consequences do not occur.
Coconut oil is applied on scalp to prevent hair fall, make hair roots strong, keep scalp free from dandruff and head lice. It is an excellent conditioner and is even believed to delay the age related whitening of scalp hair. Coconut oil is documented to improve the tensile properties of the hair, making it stronger and preventing it from breaking.

Hidden Health & Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil, when massaged into the skin, prevents it from drying and flaking. It rejuvenates the skin, delaying skin creases. Coconut oil is also effective in treating contact dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema and minor skin bruises and burns.
It also serves as a skin moisturizer.
Although rich in saturated fats, since they are present as medium chain triglycerides, coconut oil used for cooking is not as dangerous as one would perceive. In fact, it reduces injury to the inner layer of blood vessels (tunica intimae) thereby protecting from atherosclerosis from setting in. It does not have any Tran’s fats and so can be safely used for cooking.

For people who watch over their weight, coconut oil is an ideal cooking oil. As the saturated fats in coconut oil is rapidly cleared from blood, do not accumulate in liver or fat fells and can be easily burnt for getting energy, it is good for training athletes. More over, it favorably affects the pancreas and thyroid, stimulating insulin and thyroid production both of which burn energy in the body.
Coconut oil improves digestion, fights common stomach and intestinal infections and produce relief from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It is also effective for various skin conditions like diaper rash, cuts, bruises, eczema and various forms of dermatitis.

Frankincense essential oil is obtained from the steam distillation of the resin produced by the tree belonging to the Boswellia genus. In French, Frankincense means “true incense”. It is also known as gum thus or olibanum. The tree is native to the Middle East. Deep incisions are made in the tree following which a milky fluid oozes out from it. On getting exposed to air, it gradually hardens in to an aromatic gum resin (known as tears). The quality of the resin depends on the time of harvesting. This is subjected to steam distillation for extracting the oil. It is pale yellowish green in color and has a pleasant, camphoric, woody smell. It is non toxic and non irritant oil.

Frankincense essential oil has a rich ancient history, and its nothing short of miraculous health benefits are only recently becoming revealed. Historical evidence regarding Frankincense dates back as early as 5000 BC! It was considered divine by Egyptians and Hebrews. In fact Frankincense is one of the gifts Baby Jesus received from the Biblical Magi from the east as revealed in the Gospel of Mathew. Egyptians considered it as “holy anointing oil” and burned Frankincense incense in temples and used it for embalming the bodies after death.
Frankincense essential oil was also used extensively in ancient medicine. Ancient Egyptian medical texts mentioning it still exists. It was used in various Ayurvedic formulations in ancient India and Africa.

Frankincense essential oil is used extensively in aromatherapy. Its vapors are soothing, calms the agitated mind, reduces stress levels and bring forth that “other worldly” feeling. The individual feels relaxed, his blood pressure settles back to normal levels, his heart rate and palpitations are reduced, his breathing becomes calm and deeper leading to more oxygen delivery to his body tissues, his muscles relax, he feels relaxed and all the pain and stress disappear.

Source of Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense essential oil is also effective in individuals suffering from persisting cough, cough resulting from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and allergy, nasal and lung congestion associated with common cold and flu, bronchitis, bronchial asthma and lung infection. It eases out the secretions, dilates the lung airways and produces symptomatic relief and faster recovery from the above illnesses. Its muscle relaxing and mind soothing action also helps in these situations.

Frankincense essential oil can be added to bathing water or applied over the skin to find relief from dry skin, reduce wrinkles, heal sores and ulcers, decrease muscle sprains and rheumatism, decrease pain in the joints and headache. It is also effective in alleviating exhaustion, correct and regularizes blood circulation, prevent nightmares and promote good sleep.
Scientific studies have proven the anti cancer property of Frankincense essential oil. When instilled and kept in the urinary bladder, it has been shown to suppress and kill bladder cancer cells while leaving the normal cells unaffected, presenting an interesting option in fighting against this particular disease.

Frankincense essential oil is used in aromatherapy especially at the onset of labour pains during pregnancy. It has been conclusively proven to reduce the expectant mothers’ anxiety and apprehension, increase the force of uterine contractions and reduce the labour pains, leading to a smooth normal delivery and decreasing the need to do Caesarean sections (surgery) to deliver the baby.

Moroccan Argan oil is endemic to Morocco, almost exclusively confined to southwestern Morocco, where the climate is just right for the Argan tree (belonging to Argania species) to grow. Once the tree covered various regions of North Africa. The tree practically became extinct due to inadvertent grazing and chopping for wood, which facilitated the Sahara desert to advance.

Now, in a sprawling area of about 2,560,000 hectares, bordered by the Atlas Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean and protected under UNESCO as endangered species, the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve continues to thrive. It takes about one season’s fruits (about 30 to 35 kilograms) from a single tree to produce just one liter of Moroccan Argan oil. Considering the above facts, it’s no wonder that Moroccan Argan oil remains one of the rarest and the most expensive oil in the world today, earning the nickname “liquid gold”. The starting price is USD 300 per liter, nearing to about USD 2300 when it reaches a transcontinental consumer.

This is where Moroccan Argan oil originates from.

Moroccan argan oil can be extracted from fully roasted to partially roasted kernels, depending upon the purpose for which it is extracted (edible oil or cosmetic oil).It has 80% mono unsaturated fatty acids and 20% saturated fatty acids along with gamma tocopherols (natural Vitamin E), polyphenols, sterols, triterpene alcohols and squalene. Take Olive oil with its rich Vitamin E content; Moroccan Argan Oil contains twice that much Vitamin E in it. The oil is light golden yellow to clear in color, with a nutty aroma and very light in consistency.

Moroccan Argan oil is touted as the new anti aging miracle with proven results to back up the claim. Don’t believe those who call it a beauty fad, and wait for even more scientific proof. It is already there, with countless women in the know embracing it as their most effective treatment ever. So what exactly are the benefits that make Argan oil the miracle cure:

It reduces wrinkles and makes the skin firm and smooth in consistency.

It revitalizes the scalp and makes the hair shiny and unbreakable.

It also makes the nails firm, shiny, free from ridges and makes the cuticles smooth.

Very effective in curing acne and allergies and protects the skin from various irritants we come across daily.

Highly effective in psoriasis when used regularly.

The polyphenols present in it regulates sebum production in individuals suffering from oily skin resulting from excessive/abnormal sebum production.

Now, for its incredible health benefits:

Moroccan Argan oil reduces insulin resistance in experimental rats fed with high fat high sugar diet, indicating that it can be an ideal oil for salad dressing and bread dipping in people with Diabetes.

The gamma tocopherol in Moroccan Argan oil has recently been shown to possess anti inflammatory and chemo preventive properties. In practical terms, it translates into protection against coronary artery heart disease and cancers.

In fact, it is proven that the sterols and polyphenols present in Moroccan Argan oil exerts anti proliferative and pro apoptotic effects on human prostate cancer cell lines and is being investigated as one of the treatment options for preventing/treating prostate cancer in men.

It is also believed to reduce cholesterol and tone up our immune system.

The shelf life of the oil is relatively short compared to other oils and it is ideal to refrigerate it or at the most, store it in a cool dry place away from direct heat and light. Therefore, consider keeping only low stocks of it in your beauty cabinet…

In reality the term actually refers to the pods for seeds remaining on a rosebush after all the petals have fallen off. It is from these red, berry-like items that rosehip oil is actually made. This oil is renowned for its many beneficial properties when applied to the skin.
The biggest reasons for these attributes lie within the makeup of this fantastic gift of Nature.

What Makes Rosehip Oil So Great and Where Does It Come From?

Knowing some facts about why rose hip oil can benefit your skin and a little of its history can help you decide how it can be added to your beauty care routine. Rosehip Oil comes from the wild rose bushes found along the Andes in South America.
Two that are the major players in the composition are: linolenic acid which is an Omega 6 fatty acid and linoleic acid which is an Omega 3. It is a powerful antioxidant because of the high levels of vitamins, minerals and flavonoids found within it. In addition to this, it has astringent properties that are helpful for clearing skin of irritations and tightening it up, creating a more youthful appearance. There have been quite a few studies over the past couple of decades showing marked improvements for people who use this natural oil to treat skin discolorations and scarring.
Because of all these rich properties it is able to help with aging and to heal the damage from the sun.

What Is Rosehip Oil Used For?

Many people use it as a form of natural skin therapy. Because of the high levels of retinol, the rich vitamin content and large amounts of antioxidants, it is good for delaying the effects of aging. It promotes higher cell regeneration as well as increasing the collagen and elastin levels in human skin. With its astringent properties and fatty acids it is very effective at soothing burns and preventing scarring as well as helping with acne flare ups.

Users have found that using rosehip oil twice a day can reduce the appearance of blemishes and improve the tone and texture in as little as a few months’ time. It can also be used in the treatment of acne scars, sunburns and eczema.
There are many different ways you can get this gift from nature and apply it to your skin. There are creams, lotions and oils making it possible for everyone to use it, no matter what their beauty treatments’ preferences are.
